I hate musicals! For me they are the negation of the idea of kinowości, the language of images. I’m tired of playing the very principle of combining dance and vocal numbers with the development of the action. Lack of consistency (with a few exceptions, such as “Cabaret” by Bob Fosse) destroys the unity of the spectacle film, breaking it as a consequence of a series of more or less successful mini-performances. I do not share the enthusiasm for “Dancing with the Stars” and other similar projects, especially on the basis of the film. On the other hand, the movie has to be cinema, and cinema is the spectacle. It is impossible to ignore.

Rob Marshall, in addition to being a director is primarily a talented choreographer (several pieces on Broadway) – two of his films are musicals. In the first of these – “Chicago” – Marshall gave a phenomenal atmosphere Prohibition era America, and the second delves into the truly Italian reinterpretation of the work of Federico Fellini “Eight and a half.” The specifics of what is expressed in its production and what inspires admiration, not only among supporters of the musical theater?

About the film “Nine” you can tell a lot. Describe dance, music (attention is drawn primarily “Be Italian” by Fergie), acting performances. This is the power of the show, which is not only entertaining in style, but just a little bit changes the perspective. It shows the emotions that lie somewhere on the bottom, covered with everyday life. This is the power of good cinema. “Nine” is certainly not a perfect film, and it makes the discussions about it will remain in the minds of the audience, though certainly not become a legend, such as “Chicago”.
